If your flute isn't playing well suddenly, especially the lowest note, there could be a leak. before you start sending pics and emails about it to maker's try pitting into a humidity box for a day or two to see if it'll play again.

Unboxing Shakuhachi Repair

This is an old Kinko shakuhachi with 4 hanks stamps. What makes it rare is the 4th one is most likely a repair by the maker's brother. Makes you wonder about history.

How to Care For Your Shakuhachi Flute
Переглядів 969Рік тому
This is all you need to know on how to care and store your BAMBOO shakuhachi. I do not use any oils other than what comes from my hands and body. Some players rub the flute on their foreheads. It's a nice bonding ritual. Just store in an airtight container. AIRTIGHT and cleaning. Enjoy your previous moments breathing, Perry

This is a Kink Ryu - stream, lineage, school - shakuhachi made around the 1950's. Jinashi natural bore flutes are general more "organic" sounding in that the tone is not a even balance as contemporary tuned bore JIARI flutes. Jinashi flutes typically have softer and warmer tone. This one is well intone to D at a=440hz. The third hole Chi is traditionally slightly sharp in the traditional Japane...

Here is a demo of a repaired and restore TENSEI Line shakuhachi made by SEIKADO - the Kitahara family of Kyoto. circa 1970's Tozan Ryu. Hearing a flute on the computer and in a room live are two very different things so I always just demo as n neutrally as possible - without milking or adjusting for pitch accuracy.

I bought a simple shokuhachi ( uncoated bore bamboo ) in Santa Cruz 30 years ago and never got a sound. Found it today . Yours is the 3rd tutorial I found and got a sound immediately. Subscribed! Looks like we missed each other , I moved from New York to SF. I wonder if LaMama and all those Loaisaida galleries are still around ?

What do you think is the best key to play Shakuhachi? I play the DongXiao so I have some knowledge on how to play basically, but I'm thinking about getting a Shakuhachi, which are two different flutes. But I don't know what key to get it.

1.8 standard length if you want to study with a teacher. Outside of that, I personally like long bass flutes. That requires alternate hand and finger positions but might not be an issue for any m usician as we know how to adapt.

I’m looking forward to learning this instrument more and the benefits I’m gaining from the breath control relate into my martial arts training and as you say meditative breathing.

So I have made my own shakuhachi and when I blow through it it makes no noise at all other than the sound of air going through a tube I believe however the problem is because my end is not flared or tapered and because it is an equal circumference the entire length of the flute. Do you have any ideas of what I can do to fix it or should I start over with a new one?
